Valero Texas Open Recap

This past weekend of the PGA Tour brought us to one of the oldest golf tournaments on Tour, the Valero Texas Open. Yee Haw

The Valero Texas Open was the ultimate showdown of golfing grit and Texas tenacity, where players battled it out on the rugged terrain of TPC San Antonio fighting for the last ticket to The Masters. It’s a tournament that’s as tough as a Texas Longhorn, with water hazards, bunkers, and unpredictable winds making each shot a nail-biting challenge. But for those who can conquer the course, there’s a hefty purse and a coveted spot on the PGA Tour up for grabs. With a rich history dating back to 1922, this event was steeped in tradition, but that didn’t mean it was stuck in the past. The Valero Texas Open was a showcase for innovation, from its cutting-edge technology to its unconventional course layout. With its unique blend of tradition and innovation, this tournament kept golf fans on the edge of their seats. Those who attended the tournament had grabbed a cold Lone Star beer and had gotten ready for a wild ride!

Let’s dive in…..

The Winner - Corey Connors

Connors came into this week as the favorite and Connors delivered! Notching his 2nd Career Win on the PGA Tour, Corey Connors took home the Valero Texas Open Trophy yet again. He won this tournament as a Monday Qualifier in 2019. Along with $1.6 Million and a Trophy, a complementary pair of boots is provided to the winner, Yee Haw. After taking a commanding lead after round 1 (-8), Corey stumbled in his second round shooting a troublesome (for him) even par. That didn’t spot Mr. Connors as he would answer with a closing two rounds of (-9) finshing at a strong (-15).

Coming into weekend he had to chase down a red-hot Patrick Rodgers who was (-11) through 2 days of work. Rodgers on his weekend “Disappointing day, but great experience, great to be in that environment,” Rodgers said. “Honestly, hats off to Corey; he played amazing.

With Master’s Week ahead, maybe this win can propel him into the Green Jacket!

Top 3 Moments

#1 Corey Connors Plays Spoiler

One final spot was available for next weeks Masters Tournament for the Valero winner if he was not already qualified. Yes, Connors was already going to The Masters. With this putt he slams the door shut on anyone else in the field dream/shot of getting the last invite to The Masters. Do you think he was nervous over this putt? I know I would be….anyways….check out the winning tournament putt

#2

These get me fired up! I love to see the Pro’s get just a little taste of what us Amateurs do all the time. With Hatton being a notorious emotional player, it makes it all the better.

#3 Matt Kuchar's Birdie

Painful. Very Painful. See how Kuch gets robbed of an Ace thanks to the course. Might want to talk with the Super Intendent Kuch

Quite the long shot play but it was good to see him make the cut and play the weekend. Remember the name. He will be a threat on the PGA Tour soon.
